VESSEL STOPS @ CHENNAI ANCHORAGE DUE TO ENGINE FAILURE & CRITICAL REPAIR WORK DONE IN RECORD TIME
One of the vessels owned from Napoli, Italy had a struck up in engine assembly while en-route to Chennai port, thereby losing its self-control & collided with another vessel causing damage in the bulkhead. Two tugs towed her from anchorage to the berth & got moored.
REPAIR :
There were critical damages observed in the bulkhead IWO forepeak tank. Especially in the center line of longitudinal area.
- Erected scaffolding.
- Identified, marked the locations & verified material grade.
- Made a sketch of proposed repair area & Necessary welding repairs carried out.
- Shown to class surveyor.
Fitment of new crankshaft :
- Removed emergency exit door from position,
- Cut & removed the lagging frame & E/R bulkhead plate.
- Fitted new crankshaft by the specialized person & same E/R bulkhead plate edge prepared, fitted in place & welded.
- Renewed the lagging.
- Shown to class surveyor.
Finally all repairs carried out & vessel sailed off.
